Sabina Smith

Principal Nhulunbuy High School and Dawurr Boarding, North East Arnhem Land.

Sabina has lived and worked in Central Australia, Darwin and North East Arnhem Land, teaching in and leading secondary schools for over 35 years. Sabina works within professional networks such as the Australian Secondary Principals’ Association and the Beyond Blue National Advisory Council, to build relationships with other educators, mental health organisations and stakeholders across Australia. She seeks to promote the education and wellbeing of children, and build the capacity of teachers, leaders and systems, to meet the needs of students, families and communities.

In school and in boarding, she collaborates with others to create and sustain environments which nurture student wellbeing and learning. Sabina recognises that this work is critical for improving outcomes for all in society, but especially for minoritised and vulnerable groups, and Aboriginal students in particular. Sabina is wholly committed to achieving equity, regardless of postcode, family background and cultural heritage.
