Student well being and the policy frameworks that support Indigenous students have also influenced Boarding Australia’s submission to the Senate Inquiry into educational opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students. The main thrust of Boarding Australia’s submission has been to consider strategies for access, attendance, retention and academic performance for Indigenous students. We have also stressed the critical role that boarding has (and can continue to have) in delivering educational opportunities to Indigenous students. In order to truly close the gap in Indigenous education outcomes, we must identify policy, funding and research opportunities that can not only enable Indigenous students to have access to educational opportunities, but that also allow for students to make the most of these opportunities.
