As someone who manages an Indigenous boarding residence, I am acutely ware of the importance of Abstudy to our service, our students and their families. I am particularly pleased, therefore, to have been involved in Boarding Australia’s discussions with Abstudy policy leaders regarding the areas of Abstudy that may be improved.
I can inform you that representatives from the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet showed great interest in our concerns regarding eligibility criteria, incentives for student retention and the promotion of quality in Indigenous boarding. These policy-based discussions complement the feedback we have provided to the Department of Human Services regarding the administration of Abstudy.
For those with particular concerns regarding Abstudy, I encourage you to contact the CEO, Dan Cox, to ensure that we can raise these issues in our ongoing dialogue with the respective departments.
